Today is the sixth anniversary of T coming home from hospital following his birth. For the observant among you – you will realise that Ts birthday is in July, yet today’s date is October. That’s right. A long time.
T spent the first 10 weeks (yes nearly a quarter of a year) in hospital, and we as parents were just visitors. Part time parents you could call us – with the full time worry.
But as of the 02 October 2007, we became full time parents and we brought our baby home. It was a wonderful moment and I want to share what I wrote in my blog on this date and share a few photos with you. We still celebrate this date. Not in a traditional birthday fashion, more of a knowing smile between myself and husband and perhaps a little treat for T in the form of a packet of chocolate biscuits we will all sit down and share. He’s oblivious to the date (as he should be) – but it means a lot to us. It’s the day our life as a family began, much different to many other families and certainly after 10 weeks, the excitement and hoopla from friends has gone. But it was a very special moment and I’ll treasure this date forever.
“Do you know that feeling of anticipation you get on Christmas morning? It’s the same feeling I had on my wedding day. Not nerves exactly but a feeling something big is going to happen? Well that’s how I am feeling now. Its early – Lee and I have been awake and up for some time now. We both feel this is a momentous day for lots of reasons, we finally become full time parents, our lives will change from moment we lock the door and head to the hospital to collect our son and we become a family not a couple any longer. We are excited and anxious at the same time. Will post pictures later.”
“After 10 long weeks at 12.15pm exactly, T finally made it home. He wasn’t too bothered at the great event, opened his eyes for a few seconds on the tour of the house and went back to sleep. He’s slept through most of the afternoon, and we have sat watching him!”
